OUR AUTUMN 2015 PROGRAMME   (7:30 pm, bar 7pm)

Sat 5th Sep           Doc Harvey and the Philistans       -       youtube

Back by popular demand, Doc Harvey is probably the world's leading collector of the lost songs of Lancashire.

He has rummaged through archives in Adlington, browsed collections in Clitheroe and perused piles of papers in Pilsworth to discover some amazing lost songs. Together with his minions the Philistanz (Phil Philistanz and Stan Philistanz - not related) and using the medium of reed, strings, whistle and brass, the Doc presents these weird and, er, no, just weird songs for your amazement and disbelief.

Learn how the survivors of a Spanish galleon from the Armada founded an unknown colony in Waddington, how the Bavarians planned to infiltrate Lancashire culture and why the Ramsbottom Brass Band never entirely died out. Then gasp.

Sat 3rd Oct       Anthony John Clarke   -   www.anthonyjohnclarke.com

Making a welcome third appearance is Anthony John Clarke whose songs include the legendary Broken Years, The Only Life Gloria Knows, Tuesday Night Is Always Karaoke, Irish Eyes, Between Midnight and Blue and the sensational Two People. "Great Performer; so well crafted; totally at ease with his talent ... and you hear every word too." - Belfast Telegraph

Sat 7th Nov   Library Theatre Touring Company presents   '2 more talking heads'   by Alan Bennett

ALAN BENNETT sealed his reputation as the master of observation with this series of 12 ground-breaking monologues. Darkly comic, tragically poignant and wonderfully uplifting the series of ‘Talking Heads’ is widely regarded as a modern classic.

A CREAM CRACKER UNDER THE SETTEE ... Doris, a widow, lives alone. Valuing her independence, she surreptitiously cleans when her home help, Zulema, is absent. When we meet her, she has fallen whilst attempting to dust a picture frame. Alone, Doris reminisces about her life with its joys and sadnesses.

BED AMONG THE LENTILS ... Susan, an alcoholic, nervous vicar's wife who has to travel into Leeds to go to the off-licence because of her debts with the local shop keeper, distracts herself from her ambitious, and, as she sees him, vainly insensitive husband and his doting parishioners by conducting an affair with a nearby grocer, Ramesh, discovering something about herself and God in the process.

We are looking forward to another inspired performance by Library Theatre Touring Company's Deborah Kelly.
